A Special Election is any election that is not regularly scheduled. A special election may be held for any purpose authorized or required by law; often to fill a vacancy or for a public measure.

Waterloo City Council – Ward 2 Special Election

A special election will be held to fill a vacancy on the Waterloo City Council representing Ward 2.

Election Day: Tuesday, February 24


Candidate Filing Requirements

Individuals seeking election to this office are required to file both Nomination Petitions and an Affidavit of Candidacy with the Black Hawk County Auditor.

January 21 Candidate filing period opens upon notice from the City Clerk
January 30 Candidate filing deadline (5:00 p.m.) Nomination papers must be filed with the Auditor's Office.
February 2 Deadline to file written objections to nomination papers (noon).  Must be filed with the Auditor's Office.
February 2 Deadline for candidates to withdraw from the ballot (5:00 p.m.) Must be filed with the Auditor's Office.
February 4 In-person absentee voting begins at the Auditor’s Office
February 9 Pre-registration deadline for voters (5:00 p.m.)
February 9 Deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot (5:00 p.m.)
February 24 Election Day — Vote centers open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
March 24 Runoff Election (if required)

Voter Information

Voter Registration: Eligible Ward 2 residents may pre-register through February 9. After this deadline, voters may utilize Election Day Registration on February 24 with acceptable proof of identity and residence, or when voting early in person at the Auditor’s Office.
