Special Election - Black Hawk County Supervisor Vacancy
January 28, 2025
Special Election
A Special Election is any election that is not regularly scheduled. A special election may be held for any purpose authorized or required by law; often to fill a vacancy or for a public measure.
The Special Election will be held to fill the vacant Black Hawk County Supervisor position following Dan Trelka's resignation.
Candidate Information:
- There is no primary election, so political parties must nominate candidates by reconvening the county convention. Candidates wishing to run with a Democratic or Republican party designation should contact their local party chairperson for convention details.
- Non-party political organizations (NPPOs) may nominate candidates either by holding a nominating
convention or by circulating nomination petitions.
- Nominated by Petition candidates must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions. These candidates will appear on the ballot without reference to party affiliation.

Before anyone signs the petition, the required information in the candidate header of every petition page must be completed. Complete the header on one petition page and make copies of that page, so all petition page candidate headings are identical.
If circulating a nomination petition, you must collect a minimum of 100 signatures from eligible electors in Black Hawk County.
