City/School Election
School and City Elections are combined and held in November of odd-numbered years. A City election is used to elect the Mayor and Council Members and any other elected city officials. A School Election is an election to select School Board members within the district.

Required Filing Documents

Candidates should fill out the header on one Nomination Petition, then copy it to ensure all subsequent pages are identical. Petition headers must be properly completed before collecting signatures.
Signature Guidelines
Signature requirements vary by jurisdiction and office. Please refer to the lists below for the specific number of signatures required for each office on the ballot.

Filing Period
- First Day to File: Monday, August 25, 2025
- Deadline to File: Thursday, September 18, 2025 by 5:00 p.m.
Where to File
- City Candidates: File at the Black Hawk County Election Office
- School Board Candidates: File with the appropriate school board secretary
- Community College Candidates: File with the secretary of the Community College
Reminder: The Affidavit of Candidacy and Nomination Petition(s) must be filed at the same time for the filing to be accepted.
Additional Filing Reminders
- If you are running for a ward or director district seat, signatures must be collected from eligible electors who live within that specific ward or district.
- If you are a candidate running To Fill Vacancy (TFV) for the remainder of an existing term, you must mark the appropriate boxes on your paperwork.
