City/School Election
School and City Elections are combined and held in November of odd-numbered years. A City election is used to elect the Mayor and Council Members and any other elected city officials. A School Election is an election to select School Board members within the district.
Important Dates and Information:
- The City/School Election will be held on Tuesday, November 4.
- Polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
- Absentee ballot request forms can be submitted now for the City/School Election.
- The first day absentee ballots can be mailed is Wednesday, October 15.
- Absentee voting in-person will begin on Wednesday, October 15, at the Election Office.
- The deadline to submit an absentee ballot request form is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20. Absentee ballot request forms must be in the office by 5:00 p.m. Postmarks do not count!
- The pre-registration deadline for voter registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 20.
- Absentee voting in-person will end at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 3.
- Voted absentee ballots must be received in the Election Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Voters casting their absentee ballot pursuant to UOCAVA or Safe at Home should review their absentee ballot instructions for additional guidance.
Voter Registration:
The pre-registration deadline for voter registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 20.
After the pre-registration deadline, you must prove who you are (ID) and where you live (residence). The best document to bring is your valid Iowa driver’s license with your current address. However, you can find the full list of acceptable documents at the link below. Election Day Registrations can be completed on Election Day at your polling place or when voting absentee in-person at the courthouse.

Vote-by-Mail
- Absentee ballot request forms can be submitted now for the City/School Election.

Absentee Voting In-Person
*Voting will take place at the Election Office in the courthouse.*
- Absentee voting in-person will begin on Wednesday, October 15.
- Absentee voting in-person will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of the extended hours listed below.
- Absentee voting in-person will end at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 3.

Extended Hours
Extended hours are available for voter registration and absentee voting in addition to regular hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., extended office hours will be as follows:
- Monday, October 20 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, October 31 - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Voting on Election Day:
- The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
- Voters must vote at their assigned polling place.

- The Election Office will be open to answer general questions.
- There is no voting at the Election Office on Election Day.
