City Runoff Election
City Runoff Elections are mandated by the corresponding city ordinance when no candidate in a municipal election attains a majority of the votes cast. The top two candidates proceed to a Runoff Election four weeks later, and the winner of the runoff is declared the elected candidate.

Wednesday, November 12 First day absentee ballots may be mailed and in-person absentee voting begins (Courthouse, Room 213)
Monday, November 17 – 5:00 p.m. Deadline to request an absentee ballot and to pre-register to vote
Saturday, November 22 – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Election Office at the courthouse open for early voting
Sunday, November 23 – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Satellite early voting at Dr. Walter Cunningham School for Excellence (Door 2, Gymnasium Entrance) – 1224 Mobile St, Waterloo, IA 50703
November 27–28 Election Office closed for Thanksgiving
Monday, December 1 – 5:00 p.m. Last day to vote absentee in-person
Tuesday, December 2 – 8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots must be received by the Election Office

Voter Registration

Pre-registration closes Monday, November 17 at 5:00 p.m. After this date, voters can register on Election Day or when voting absentee in-person by providing ID and proof of residence.

In-Person (Absentee)

Location: Election Office, Courthouse Room 213
Dates: Weekdays, November 12–December 1 (closed November 27–28 for Thanksgiving)
Hours: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (Extended to 5:00 p.m. on November 17 & December 1)  

Additional Extended Hours: Saturday, November 22 – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Election Office will be open for early voting.

Voters must show ID when voting in-person. View ID requirements.

Note: The Election Office will answer questions on Election Day, but voting is not permitted there on that day.
